Please lend a hand to Jesse Malin.

A spinal stroke has disabled musician Jesse Malin. A few months ago he suddenly experienced a scorching ache in his lower back while out to dinner in the East Village. The discomfort gradually spread to his hips, thighs, and heels. He was unable to move and fell to the restaurant floor. Malin experienced a spinal-cord infarction, which is quite rare. Jesse is currently paralyzed from the waist down and is experiencing a great deal, both physically and mentally. Although he has decent insurance, it won’t pay for many of his costs beyond acute treatment.

Your gift can alleviate him of the additional burdens brought on by the significant cost of his immediate and long-term care. Power Popaholic interviewed Jesse a few years ago and wants to spread the word and hopefully, fans like you will answer the call.

Give to the Jesse Malin Fund today.

Support P. Hux and some EPs that deserve to be heard: Old Town Cryer, Flathead, Andy Bopp, The Photocopies, The Pozers

The great P. Hux has a new album he’s finishing up, mixing, mastering, and other details. You only have a few days left to contribute to one of the best power pop artists around. Visit the Kickstarter site. Old Town Cryer has a bluesy live performance last year at The Fallout Shelter in Norwood, MA and half the proceeds go to The Pine Street Inn, a charitable organization whose mission is to end homelessness. From Marseille, France comes Flathead, an energetic power pop band that advertises “No Synths… Only Guitars.” Another great power pop veteran, Andy Bopp is back with an EP of sweet tunes; “Roger” and “Poison Girl” which is like a mix of Bowie meets Robert Pollard. Love this! The Photocopies have a neat new release that hums along, check out the fuzzy pop “Holiday Romance” and  “Like Teenage Love.” Finally, The Pozers video for “Two” comes from Crybaby Bridge. It’s my favorite song from the album. Enjoy!

Kai Danzberg Pledge Campaign

German power pop musician Kai Danzberg delivered a very Jellyfish-friendly album to the masses earlier this year. And now he’s crowdfunding a vinyl release — I’m sure many of you would like to hear this on a turntable. Please support this artist, especially since he’s made this album a FREE download. Visit the Pledge Campaign!

Help these artists: Richard X. Heyman, Fernando Perdomo

Richard X. Heyman “Incognito”

RXH has been busy with both his solo work and playing with The Doughboys. If anyone represents the DIY independent spirit of power pop and rock and roll – it’s Richard. His new album promises to be mostly guitar-driven melodic pop (yay!) with some keyboard flourishes thrown in for a good measure or two. Help fund his new album! Visit: Kickstarter

Fernando Perdomo “The Golden Hour”

Fernando heads down to the famous Ardent Studios in Memphis to make his third full-length album. He will be using original equipment that was used by the band Big Star to make their amazing records in the 70s.To make this album the best effort ever, he is hiring Zach Ziskin for mixing and mastering and getting a full contingent of string players at Ardent. Singles and Previews: Spirit Kid, Nicole Atkins, Chris Merritt, Lisa Mychols and more.

Some of my long time favorite artists are coming out with new material, so I figured I’d break protocol and share some singles and videos:

It’s been too long, but Spirit Kid is back with a kick-ass single “To My Romeo,” and hopefully a new album cannot be far behind.

Nicole Atkins has been touring a lot lately and after some notable collaborations, she’s started a funding effort for a new album Goodnight Rhonda Lee.

Chris Merritt is a classically trained pop wunderkind and after a series of innovative albums, he took a career break. But now he’s working on”Be Minor” from the upcoming album Time Is Real. Give a listen.

The lovely and talented Lisa Mychols always seems to have something cooking. Her great vocals are featured on the new single “He’s Got Me Dreaming” and it’s available on CD Baby.

I predicted it and it came true! R. Stevie Moore and Jason Falkner backed by the British indie band Happyness at SxSW 2017
