Singles: Myles Josephh, The John Sally Ride, The Dowling Poole, Brad Marino, Go Outside, m.a.p.a

Kai Danzberg is working with a new artist, Myles Josephh. The harmonies are terrific and Kai knows a great melody when he sings it. The team is working on a new EP for this year.

The John Sally Ride is another artist poised to make a big comeback this year. Here is the first impressive single, love those riffs!

The Dowling Poole is back, Willie Dowling and Jon Poole have a  new album, “See You, See Me”, to be released on 28 February 2020. These are the first 2 singles. XTC fans will dig it!

Brad Marino plays this Buddy Holly classic. Hey, it’s a FREEBIE!

The new band Go Outside is more of an emo/alt. rock band, but they hit this single correctly when they shout “I swear to God if I ever play Power Pop… Give me something to make my heart stop!” Kinda reminds me of Superdrag. Album is on Bandcamp, and this single is a FREEBIE!

A band from Madrid, Spain – m.a.p.a stands for the first names of the people in the band; Manuel, Ana, Pepe, and Antonio. Plus they do a sweet cover of “Mean Mr. Mustard,” it’s a FREEBIE!

Singles: Kurt Baker, Danny McDonald, Suspect Parts, Willie Wisely, Richard Turgeon, Francis Lung, Nick Bertling

The Kurt Baker Combo has been putting out a few tracks over the last few months, including (I Can’t Help) Falling In Love. It’s good to hear the classic Kurt Baker sound after a few punkier projects. Look for a new LP soon I think.

A truly excellent power-pop single by Danny McDonald but it’s so short (1:10) — is it too much to ask for another chorus? Hear more for FREE on the Shake Yer Popboomerang Vol. 3 compilation.

Suspect Parts are a German band with influences coming from 60s pop and the 70s California beach sound, all the way through to 77-punk. Nice three-song EP here.

As previously noted, Willie Wisely does country music as well as power pop. The ballad “No Suprise” has four mixes here, all with steel pedal and soulful vocal performance.

Richard Turgeon just keeps putting out cool tunes, this single has plenty of guitar muscle. He also recently added “Jolene” which is a FREE download. I liked this song better, like a hybrid of The Who and Oasis.

The holidays are fast approaching. This sweet pop treat by Francis Lung is most welcome! Beautiful vocal harmonies join clarinet, tenor sax, flute, bass clarinet, and baritone sax to create this bittersweet seasonal gem. It’s a FREE download too.

Last week we featured Nick Bertling‘s Monkee covers, now he’s doing a faithful instrumental overture from The Who’s “Tommy.” A FREE download, and a fine job, Nick!

Friday Freebies and Singles: Robyn Gibson, Agony Aunts, Nezrok, Peter Baldrachi, Zach Jones

Robyn Gibson (The Junipers) returns with his fourth edition of cover tunes. Great covers of some power-pop faves and it’s all a FREE download too.

10 years ago The Agony Aunts formed in the Bay area and for the occasion, they broke into the studio where The Corner Laughers were recording new material and busted out this cover tune when the others weren’t looking. Also, it’s a FREEBIE!

Nezrok thinks ahead to Valentine’s Day, with Steve Minotti on lead vocal gives it a soulful approach.

Peter Baldrachi‘s coming back in a big way. Enjoy this new single off his upcoming album. A treat for the ears!

Okay, my bad. I should have posted this a few days ago but the majestic Zach Jones knows “October’s Almost Over” and delivers a touching ballad.

Singles: The Vinyl Skyway, Vanilla, My Little Hum, Rozwell Kid, The Inside Passenger, Joe Kane, Andrew Stonehome, The Hangabouts

Holy Cow! There is a bumper crop of great music here. Let’s dive right in…

Boston band The Vinyl Skyway dazzles with this excellent single. Songwriters Andy Santospago and Michael Hayes know how to hook you with their harmonies and minor chord shifts. Worth multiple repeats!

The band Vanilla follows up from its smart LP Mystik Knights of Tacoma with this horn-filled gem that about a tree fort that is either an emotional security blanket or the ultimate man cave.

My Little Hum is husband and wife duo Dan Jewett (guitars/bass) and Yuri Jewett (vocals/keyboards). They do a great job here with a strong jangling melody and Yuri’s sweet vocal harmonies are comparable to Karla Kane. Part of the upcoming album Pioneer. Check it out!

Rozwell Kid delivers a quirky punk song that just stuck with me. It’s a FREE download that starts out quiet and then breaks out (Hey, maybe Rolling Stone will pay attention?) Lyric video here.

The Inside Passenger is a new musical project from fan-favorite Cliff Hillis. It’s definitely a different style; Melancholy pop music made for late nights.

Glasgow treasure Joe Kane (Dr. Cosmo’s Tape Lab, The Owsley Sunshine, BMX Bandits) has put together these little glammy, fabby singles with those Ringo-like drum fills and Lennon-like vocal noodling. So much fun it will stick fast! “If you love your booty clap your hands..” Love it!

Andrew Stonehome is a songwriter, singer, and multi-instrumentalist from North Dakota. He deserves your attention for this excellent power-pop single. Album coming next year.

Detroit’s The Hangabouts are also working on something new! You can hear some Elvis Costello influence here, and it’s a true gem with a soulful guitar break midway through. Keep your eyes and ears out for a new LP soon!
