November Singles and more: The High Frequencies, The Photocopies, Reno Bo, The James Rocket, Carla Olson, Girl With A Hawk, GUV

The High Frequencies have a world premiere video out now “Stratplastic” and like the debut album I just reviewed, it’s fantastic. Lisa Mychols is in her element here with catchy melodic guitar crunching goodness! You can read my review, but get this album! Next, The Photocopies are having an identity crisis with “We’re Not Photocopies” and the jangle is akin to The Ocean Blue, with a bit more cool fuzz. Next, Reno Bo is back, with an assist from Sadler Vaden on his new single “Undefeated.” A great example of a hard working Brooklyn band is The James Rocket. They have a new album (almost an EP) that deserves mention; check out the Kinks-like “Autumn” and “Penny.” Next a cool single collaboration between acclaimed singer/songwriter/producer Carla Olson and Tall Poppy Syndrome, doing a Brenda Lee cover “Is It True.” Next the sweet voice of songwriter Linda Viens from Girl With A Hawk on the gratitude themed “I’m In Love With My Friends,” a mid-tempo gem with a singalong quality. Finally a preview of the new GUV album, here it’s “Warmer Than Gold,” a sound recalling those “Mad-chester” bands of the 90s. Enjoy the weekend! More goodies to come.

August Singles and Previews: Vibeke Saugestad Band, Marshall Crenshaw, Timmy Sean, The Wellingtons, Vegas With Randolph, The Photocopies

And after the heat waves, August has arrived. Norwegian power pop princess Vibeke Saugestad (Weld, The Yum Yums) is a multi-talented musician and she’s got a new EP coming up soon. This video is a teaser, and I can’t wait. Next, Marshall Crenshaw presents ‘From The Hellhole’ an artisanal selection of tunes recorded in his home studio. It sounds so good, and with the passing of Ozzy Osbourne, Timmy Sean has produced a tribute to the late Heavy Metal pioneer. I’m especially excited for the return of one of my favorite Aussie bands, The Wellingtons. “Always Gonna Be That Girl” proves the band is in fine form with this great hook-filled gem. Don’t forget Vegas With Randolph, as they have a career “best-of” collection coming up, and we hear a deep cut “New Leaf.” Finally, I’ve got a new freebie for you from The Photocopies, check out the jangling gem “Average Schmuck.” You would be quiet the schmuck to not get this EP. This is your last month to enjoy summer, so go outside!

Support P. Hux and some EPs that deserve to be heard: Old Town Cryer, Flathead, Andy Bopp, The Photocopies, The Pozers

The great P. Hux has a new album he’s finishing up, mixing, mastering, and other details. You only have a few days left to contribute to one of the best power pop artists around. Visit the Kickstarter site. Old Town Cryer has a bluesy live performance last year at The Fallout Shelter in Norwood, MA and half the proceeds go to The Pine Street Inn, a charitable organization whose mission is to end homelessness. From Marseille, France comes Flathead, an energetic power pop band that advertises “No Synths… Only Guitars.” Another great power pop veteran, Andy Bopp is back with an EP of sweet tunes; “Roger” and “Poison Girl” which is like a mix of Bowie meets Robert Pollard. Love this! The Photocopies have a neat new release that hums along, check out the fuzzy pop “Holiday Romance” and  “Like Teenage Love.” Finally, The Pozers video for “Two” comes from Crybaby Bridge. It’s my favorite song from the album. Enjoy!
