Pugwash and The Cars preview

‘Answers on a postcard’ (exclusive Pug-blog preview clip) by Pugwash
The poptastic Pugwash is almost ready with its newest album. Thomas Walsh and friends are hard at work so I expect good things when this album is released.

The Cars have returned and they sound much better now (sorry, Todd). This impressive video was released. Pre-order the album “Move Like This” here.

Jerry Rio "Foreverland"

Jerry Rio is the talent behind last years top ten band Sunrise Highway. This song is a preview of things to come. The lyrics describe a wistful dream of “Foreverland” where “rock and roll makes you feel you’ll never get old.” Loving that 12 string Rickenbacker strum too. Note: Since I’ve been getting lots of video previews lately, I had a video gallery created. Check it out!

Will Kontiki return?

In 1997 one of the best power pop albums ever was released. Cotton Mather’s “Kontiki” was it. Now Robert Harrison (Future Clouds and Radar) is pushing for a 2 disc re-release on Kickstarter. The hilarious “man-on-the-street” interviews are typical of the general public’s perception of great power pop. This is a worthy project that I hope you’ll all support.

Album previews: Sloan, The Smithereens and The Nines

Sloan
One of the greatest power pop bands to cross the Canadian border is Sloan, and the new album Double Cross is a shout-out to the band’s 20th (or XX) anniversary. Just to get you salivating here is the first single “Follow The Leader” free for a limited time. Full release due 5/10/11 –  Download Here

The Smithereens
With all the Beatle and Who tributes out of thier system, the band comes out with a new album full of originals. It has released “Sorry” as a new single from the up coming album, and it marks a return to the greatness for The Smithereens. You’ll be sorry if you don’t get this one. Itunes exclusive

The Nines
Steve Eggers from The Nines gives us a preview of a song from the new album Polarities, featuring 15 years of unreleased songs by the Nines. I’m sure over that time he’s collected plenty of untapped melodic gold. Here is a preview of “Goodbye Janine.”
